Well here we go again watching Microsoft playing catch up, as they plan to enter the TV set top box market. Reports are indicating Microsoft will show off and demo it's new connected TV solution this week at CES 2011.
The rumors that are going around now are saying the device will be similar to Apple's and Google's set top box offerings but with a Windows media twist, which could either spell success or disaster for Microsoft as it's one of the most loved and hated applications in its Windows operating system.
Way back in November last year the company had been in talks to turn the Xbox 360 into a cable TV set top box for a monthly fee, although it was said at the time any TV type service was a year away from achieving that. Now it looks as if Microsoft has abandon that idea, and wants it's own box to directly compete with Apple, Google, and even Boxee.
Looks like it's not only going to be the year of the tablets (again), but also the year of getting internet content into your living room. If you loved the Boxee Box, get ready for the Balmer Box!
