Don't get me wrong, I enjoy what Facebook has to offer. I have found many friends there from the past and present and its always a great way to keep in touch. That is the wonderful gewy side of Facebook, but what about the side that most users have no idea about whats going on?
I'm talking about intrusion of your privacy. Sure there are settings and customizations that you can do to turn these things off which only takes about an hour to find and that's after all the Google searches you have made to find your answer. But one issue I have stumbled upon this week once again makes me question the Facebook foundation.
Facebook is currently testing a beta model of info on 6 million of it's users that allows it to read what you type as you enter it in order to serve up ads. So for example you tell your friends "hey this music from this artist is fantastic" you might then get an ad from Sony Music or iTunes. At first it sounds cool, but only then you realize that you don't get this ad later when come back to Facebook, you get this ad as you are typing what you want to say.
Yes this is fantastic news for advertisers and maybe even a little for Facebook users. Not only will you be given ads that are personal to you but it also helps keep Facebook free and ad supported. But it also carry's little spooky side to it. As if Big Brother himself is looking over your shoulder. It also mean that Facebook is using you to sell itself.
Does it mean someone's actually reading your conversations? Of course not. It's just a computer doing what its programed to do, but don't be surprised if one night Mr.Zuckerberg finds himself somewhat bored and has a little peek.
