I hate Motorola. Anyone who knows me knows that this once touted company now bears the weight of my rage and frustration. The Motorola Cliq burned me badly, yet started a strange love affair with a little green guy by the name of Android.
That being said, I must, however, give credit where credit is due. Motorola unveiled at CES 2011 the Atrix 4G, a Tegra 2 powered Android phone that is not only a great phone, but also a decent computer.
Plug the phone into a dock which connects an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and you have a full Linux-based workstation. Based on the videos from CES, full screen video playback was a bit choppy, but still quite impressive. Web browsing was also a little sluggish, but since the phone was drawing from a network that was most likely already burdened thanks to the thousands of CES visitors, it needs a little leniency.
I have been thinking and talking about the idea of plugging in a smartphone to a workstation for some time now. To see this dream begin to come to life is amazing. Granted, it needs much improving, but the groundwork is laid and seems solid. Only Android could bring us this kind of awesomeness. Apple and Microsoft's platforms wouldn't even dare to be this cool.
What next, Android? What next?
