As if it wasn't enough with the spoiled attitudes I was talking about in the last article, there is more to deal with, sadly.
Some people really love to describe their observations on technology in the most snobby ways. This has become painfully evident in the wake of the recently launched iPad Mini. Since this new iPad is not equipped with the high resolution "retina" display that has been around in Apple's Many have recalled their first contact with the "retina" screens Apple first introduced with the iPhone 4, or more specifically how it was to see one of the earlier model iPhone screens after gazing into it. Few times have I seen such incredible misuse of wording, as when some have described it as "I looked upon the iPhone 3GS screen with disgust". Surely, this is parody, no? A bad farce, at least?
Alas, it is not.
I get it, I've seen it happen, technology improves dramatically over time and our tools become insanely beautiful and powerful devices, breaking down limits and barriers for anyone who obtains such a device. But for crying out loud, stop having this ridiculous stuck-up attitude about older technology. You didn't like to read on the lower resolution display, fine. But to look upon it "in disgust", just because you have seen a better display? Give me a break, really!
This isn't limited to just Apple fans either. I have heard comments from the Android camp about how they would never be seen using a last generation Google device. Any reason given for this? Nope, just that these people also like to flaunt the latest gizmo in front of other people in order to wax their ego. I guess we finally have something that both Apple fans and Android fans share. And they used to say the two sides were irreconcilable.
It's something that I have said many times already, but it seems fitting to repeat myself somewhat; just because a new thing comes along, doesn't mean the old stuff gets worse. Instead, it's all the new stuff that keeps getting better and better.
Perhaps it's my perspective as someone who still uses old gear. Maybe I'm just not seeing it because I'm so used to the older stuff? Thing is though, I have used far superior devices with much better displays than what I use and I can still appreciate the older gear. Is it bad that we move towards ever better stuff, with really high resolution displays and blazingly fast internals, allowing us to access the world in an instant?
Of course not! I'm just saying, perhaps it would be nice if we could tone down the nonsense and for some people to put their ego in a box under the sink before opening their virtual mouths online. It would do us all a great favor.
