Ok Disclaimer I had the glasses given to me by Hoya. But that said I love my Top Loaders this my second pair they given me thanks Mark and Hoya. The first pair attached on the side of he lens and they were connected by the nose bridge. Very light but prone to flexing. The top loader are different the lens hang off the frame they are still very light but they don’t flex quite so much and there is less stress on the tabs on the lens. Nose bridge also hangs off the frame too and helps them move easily without effecting the lens and are very comfortable to wear. They are strong, I had a ham fisted mate who grabbed my glasses off my face to read a menu! he was on my left and when he grabbed the Hoya’s they hooked on my left ear and he pulled them very hard he also only grabbed them on one side I was horrified well they survived that and were still same shape, and and he got the sharpe edge of my tongue.
Because the lens has no frame they lens are easy to clean because you can get right to the edge of the lens. You can have a choice of frames finishes I chose the solid black but as the frame are only couple of mm thick at the front you can hardly see them.
I won’t go into the manufacture of the milling process Ewen already covered that in his review but having been to the factory in sunny Wales its amazing what goes in and how quickly the lens appear out of a big block of material.
I don’t know how much they cost at retail but I understand it can vary greatly based on the lens type required
What have you got to lose try a pair on see what you think you won’t regret it honest…
