Ewen and Alex disagree a fair bit over the demise of the Jessops retails chain but thankfully other news intervenes to lighten the tone and we also take YOUR questions on photography.

QUESTIONS

1. I've had a Nissin flashgun for a couple of years(which I rarely use), and am still a little confused by the settings on flash and camera. The flash has TTL as well as a few manual power options. I was of the understanding that TTL/through the lens was a mode where the flash would adjust for the settings of the camera. However using it on aperture priority I get very mixed results and usually have to adjust the aperture to suit the flash rather than the other way round. Is this right? I like to take some casual photos of the family on special occasions like christmas, but do not wish to blind them taking multiple shots of the same scene as I fiddle with settings. I know I could just set the camera to an automatic mode like P, however just wanted to find out what you guys tend to do with this set up - for example, I know you have all shot weddings before…

2. I had a go at photographing the moon a while back with some extension tubes. However I found I could not focus - the lenses I used could not focus 'far enough away'. I tried a couple of lenses, a sigma 70-300 and an old manual 50 prime, neither worked. Is this a limitation of the lenses, or something to do with crop sensor cameras?
