Excellent Show for The Tech Minded -- 5 stars - by MNWingNut from United States on 6 Sep 2013
Let's face it: there are a bucketload of podcasts available that are centered around the news-of-the-week in the tech world. If you're getting a bit weary of the monotony of those cookie-cutter podcasts, I highly recommend The Big Show from the British Tech Network. With select and rotating cast of contributors, Ewen Rankin pulls together a band of panelists from around the world that aren't prissy talking heads, but users and lovers of tech. People with real world experience who discuss the what's new and what's happening with both a personal insight and far-ranging insights.Joined by the odd American or two (Jeff Gamet of the MacObserver and Kelly Guimont of TUAW.com) Ewen's regulars include Karl Madden, Sarah Gray and James Hart among others...Lest you think this is a stoic and staid rehash of stories you see elsewhere, the floating cast also bring their individual senses of humor. Mix the marvelous British wit with Jeff Gamet's rumored lack of pants…well, you have to be there to understand the humor. It's good fun, good information delivered by mostly good people."Mostly good people? Why do you say that," you ask?I've actually had the honor of being part of the show. In a most questionable lack of judgement, Ewen took to Twitter to find a last minute replacement for a panelist who had to back out at the last minute. I responded and had the time of my life while trying desperately to contribute at their level. I don't podcast, but if I did, I'd model if after the British Tech Network. These folks are well-read, well-spoken and for all we know, well-dressed. The Big Show is coverage of the biggest stories of the week by a fun cast.Ewen's network has branched out to other geeky arenas as well. Photography, comic books, F1, and the Mac. I highly recommend any of these shows, but the Big Show has a special place in my listening line-up.
