The Arcade OrbitCam XL Drone was sent to me for review by MobileFun.co.uk here in Birmingham
On opening the box it was delivered in, I was presented with a quadcopter around 30cm wide with fully edge-guarded propellers, a Handset and a set of replacement blades. Charging Leads and USB are also provided. This unit is definitely a 'Ready to Fly' item.
The first thing I noticed (and perhaps the best thing) about the Arcade OrbitCamXL Drone, was how easy it is to use. Within minutes of opening it, I was able to control the drone really nicely. The control system is simple to understand with the instructions in the manual providing clear answers to any uncertainties. Within minutes I was hovering and then managing a controlled 'figure of 8' manoeuvre around the office in quite tight conditions. Flying indoors wouldnt be a major issue (but perhaps not around smaller valuable items)
The drone itself is very light but also really quite robust, taking no apparent damage from any of the many times I bumped it into the desk of cabinets.
My only negative thought was the flight time. First time out I was just starting to master the controls and then I had to recharge it from the batteries in the handset. That said, the flight time is stated at 7 minutes and I probably got a little more than that and this kind of time is not atypical of most of the drones in this market. Additionally, the batteries it uses inside the drone can be purchased separately and with a stock of these to hand and on charge, you could fly pretty much continuously.
The Camera is also a great addition. Yes it might not provide the greatest quality of image or footage but considering the whole drone retails for only £60, its really good value and the images are ok.
Overall the Arcade OrbitCamXL Drone is a great buy, with the value for money of this drone making it a fun gift that all will enjoy. The flight dynamics are great, so even Grandma might like to have a go and if she cant fly it well, its well protected for the odd bump or graze. Well worth the money.
