The HiRise for iMacs isn't just for iMacs. No, the HiRise from Twelve South is a beautifully crafted monitor stand that will look good just about anywhere you choose to use it.

Twelve South sent through two of these units, one to give away as a prize and the other as a review unit and I have to say in the month that I've been using this, its made my desk space seem all the more palatable.

The unit comes in two large sections which fit together through an interlocking groove and then two end sections which mimic the 'cheese grater' design of Apple's Mac Pro. It looks lovely in a brushed aluminium finish and the pieces slide together effortlessly. Inside, there is an aluminium shelf which allows you to adjust the height of your iMac/Cinema display to whatever you find comfortable and the remaining space, either above or below allows for the storage of your iPhone, wallet, keys etc but whilst the advertising stops at these items, the space will comfortably hold your iPad Mini and is only 15mm short of holding the full size iPad. Its HUGE!

Stores

The 'Cheese grater' sections fit on with small bolts but also attach with magnets which hold well. You don't really get the full benefit of the storage space if you use the screws on the front panel anyway, but those on the back panel are essential to 'clamp' the display into the unit.

Pros

  • Mac User or not, this is a beautiful piece of engineering that would even make a plant pot look good
  • It fits neatly on your desk and doesn't take up anymore space than your iMac/Cinema Display would have
  • Its beautifully made and feels worth every penny when you hold it
  • Its sturdy. Your expensive Apple kit won't be toppling off and the HiRise won't be collapsing.
  • The Storage space inside is useful and large enough for an external drive unit or your iPad Mini.

Cons

  •  The Screws are small and fiddly. They aren't needed on the front, just the back, but you have to fit them after the display is in place.

Overall

Buy it!. Its beautiful and useful, a rare thing in the Mac Add-on Market.
