There can be no denying that since Disney's acquisition of the Star Wars universe they've wasted no time in milking this intergalactic cash cow and no more than on iOS but this time I think they've hit the nail on the head. One of my favourite iOS games from the early days of the platform was Tiny Tower which was just a simple but highly addictive tower simulator where you controlled the lives of your 'bitizens', their jobs and their futures but now you can do just the same in a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Tiny Death Star.
All they've really done is to mimic what Rovio did with Angry Birds: Star Wars which is to take the original concept of the game and tweak it with familiar characters and some custom game play based on their characteristics. Tiny Death Star as you may imagine centres around the Emperor's desire to build the ultimate battle station and crush the rebellion. You must build the various levels of your war machine with residential and commercial levels so that you can earn international bux to enhance the project ever further.
The gameplay doesn't really deviate from the original incarnation of the game but one thing that I did find that was new were the Emperor missions which pop up during the game. Success in these missions bring big rewards so keep an eye out for them. You can also unlock little animated scenes and characters which once achieved can be viewed at your leisure. Apart from that it's all about building that tower, keeping the cash rolling in and finding your minions their perfect job.
Although this new version doesn't bring much more to the party its predecessor it's certainly a decent refresh and it's great seeing all that Star Wars related goodness on the screen as you set out for galactic domination and you can't beat the Imperial March in 8-bit playing throughout.
The game is free but does have the option for in-app purchases but if you're patient you can happily play without them.
