You may or may not be a fan of iOS’s inbuilt apps. Over time I’ve found a realm of alternatives. Solar for Weather, Tempo for calendars and now Rise to help me rise and shine.

Rise is a third party solution to replace the alarm on your iPhone. It’s simplicity is its key. On opening the app you’re presented the with current time and all you have to do is to swipe up or down to choose the time that you’d like to be rudely awakened. As you move your digit up and down the screen it tells you how long until that alarm will sound.

One you’re all set you can swipe to the side of your screen, activate it and you’re good to go. Then again if you then decide in the middle of the night that you can’t be bothered to get up and go work you can simply swipe to the side and again and turn it off.

Swiping up on the screen will allow to choose from a selection of alarm tones to suit your needs and you can even compile a list of snooze tunes from your iTunes library.

As an alternative app it’s pretty nice. The only problem I do have it is that when the alarm goes off, if you have a pass code set you have to type it in before you can snooze or disable it which may not be to your fancy at ‘no-o-clock’ in the morning.

Anyway if you want to try it you can grab it free for a limited time from the App Store.
