Nokia Lumia 735

Nokia Lumia 735

Apart from seeing the devices of others and a crappy works phone I've not had much experience of Windows Phone 8.1 so imagine my delight when my company phone was upgraded to a capable device. The device is the Nokia Lumia 735.

I really didn't know what to expect especially from what is essentially a mid-range device but so far I'm rather impressed.

The first thing that I noticed is that Windows Phone is a pretty decent and slick operating system. Just the fact that you can customise the home screen is a revelation to me. As an iPhone fan boy this is something that I've always wanted to do but just being to have your fave apps and live content there when you pick up your phone has really changed the way that I interact with a mobile device. And it's fast, man it's fast. Even though this is not a flagship device you can nip around with ease.

Obviously as it's Nokia the build quality is pretty decent. The back is a bit 'plasticly' but it's not aimed at the high end market. My only grumble is the way that you have to access the battery and sim card as you have to basically prise off the majority of the housing leaving nothing but a shell which I wasn't comfortable doing the first couple of times.

The 4.7" screen is bright and vibrant and joy to look at although a number of my colleagues have already complained that it scratches a little to easily so grab those screen protectors while you can.

So let's get into the specs. There's only 8GB of storage but this is saved with the addition of a micro SD card slot. The main camera is 6.7MP with a lower-res selfie camera if you're into that sort of thing. It is 4G though so that SD card may come in handy. The processor is a quad-core 1.2GHz which seems to do the job but if you're looking for a gimmick it does come in with built in Qi wireless charging although you would have to fork out for the charging pad yourself.

All in all even with it's flaws I'm pretty happy with the 735. Obviously you get the usual suite of Nokia apps but if you're still undecided if you buy now (200 quid sim free) you get a free Fitbit Flex which I've most certainly opted for.

This does prove that at last you can get a pretty decent phone for a pretty decent price. Well done!
