I’ve heard a lot about this series and its critical acclaim so have been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. To my delight the entire first series of Mr Robot is now available on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
The series centres on Elliot Anderson who is my favourite type of person, a geek, but a geek with flaws. Under an almost consuming shadow of anxiety and depression he struggles to cope with the day to day world which often leads him to delusion and talks to his inner self as if it is another person a lot like the way that Dexter used to narrate his self loathing and inner demon.
By day Elliot is a security engineer but by night he is a hacker. Hacking is also the way that he connects with others, breaking into their email, social media to better understand the world around him. He also uses his skills for good taking down the unlawful and cruel and as referenced before his actions follow the Dexter style. You’ll see what I mean if you have seen both series.
But Elliot’s world is about to take a sudden turn in the shape of Mr Robot, a cyber terrorist working for the good of the everyday folk of the world and against the all powerful Evil Corp.
This show is moody and dark in some places but the attention to the technical detail is second to none. It almost makes technology look sexy but there is no getting away from the turmoil that cripples Elliot as he tries to understand his place in the world and who he should be fighting for.
I would recommend this to everyone whether you’re into tech or not. And as the days get shorter and colder there’s nothing like a good binge watch. Enjoy!
