Clear for iPhone
Life is messy especially if you're as disorganised as me. As a typical man I always find it difficult to organise the things I need to do day to day. What I need is a list. For years I've envied my wife who has an inexplicable ability to get things done and on time, and why is that? The humble list that's what.
Now I make lists but generally these culminate in the the scraps of paper scattered around the house or the Post-It notes stuck to the office monitor, neither of which rarely reap results. So what's the answer? A smart phone app right? Well you would think think so. Your phone is always with you and you'd think by now that those boffins in bedrooms would have come up with something but in my experience there hasn't really been anything that makes it easy and more importantly fun to use which if it was would probably engage to use such an app.
Well now we have hope with Clear for iPhone.
Now I've never waited eagerly for an app, especially one that that is entirely based on making lists but when I heard about Clear's imminent release just before Christmas I began counting down the days (sad I know).
So what makes it different? Well it's that one thing that all the most successful iPhone apps winners and that's simplicity and design.
When you fire up Clear you can immediately create a list such as 'things to do', 'shopping lists' etc so simply and easily. Once you've created you list you can enter it by tapping on it. You can then add new items to the list by dragging down from the top of the screen and entering relevant text for the task at hand. You can then reorder the list by selecting a task, holding down on it and then dragging it to a suitable position based on the tasks priority. Another way to add items to specific location in the list is to grab two tasks either side of where you want it to go and drag them apart, a new item will then be added in place for you to edit.
If you complete a task simply swipe to the right on that item and it will be dropped to the bottom of the list and appears struck through so that know know its been done. If you want to reinstate it simply swipe right and it will be added back to the list. Then if you have a number of completed tasks that you don't require any more just pull up on the screen and all of the completed tasks will be cleared. You can also delete a task by just swiping to the left.
This same functionality applies throughout the app when adding new items to the master list index. You can also navigate all of the primary screens in the with a simple swipe up and down on the screen.
The other thing that makes it a joy to use are the settings that allow you to set themes and the sound effects you get when you create or complete a task which are probably one of the most satisfying things of all.
So if you are Mr Post-It, Mrs Scrap Paper or just outright disorganised then this may just be the app you're looking for. And although you may find it hard to get excited about an app that revolves completely around making lists then this one may just change your mind.
