British Airways i360

British Airways i360

This weekend I popped down to Brighton to have a go on the brand new British Airways i360, a vertical cable car that launched earlier this month.

The i360 was designed by the team behind the London Eye but instead of multiple, smaller pods there is just one massive pod that can hold up to 200 people. It ascends a massive structure which looms over the skyline of Brighton and elevates you 450 feet into the air. The pod is surrounded by glass so as the name suggests you get a 360 degree view across 26 miles of coastline and countryside.

On arrival you are subjected to multiple security checks such as bag inspections and metal detectors which is understandable with such an attraction. Once cleared you then enter the pod which is stunning. Plus it has a bar. There is seating around the centre but no one is really interested in that. There is plenty of room for all occupants to look out of the glass circumference plus there is ample room to walk around so you can find the view that is right for you whether it be land or see.

When your journey starts the pod seamlessly rises above the rooftops and beyond. When you reach the summit you can see for miles, the extensive coastline and the beautiful countryside as well as the best and worst of Brighton. I have to say it was totally enjoyable and so smooth, it actually felt quite space aged.

Check out this 360 video below for a better experience.

The mood is really chilled out and everyone had a good time. I’d imagine many cities would benefit from such an attraction, but maybe not Norwich. When your journey is over the pod glides back down to earth where you can go and spend money in their outrageous gift shop if you haven’t already spent your hard earned green on their champagne.

There is also an app you can download prior to your visit which provides a ‘pre-ride’ show as well as other essential information.

This really is a once in a lifetime experience and a technological marvel. So well worth the trip from Norwich to the south even though at times the weather was appalling, but that didn’t take anything away from it. I would recommend this to everyone if you’re down that way.
