Jumping the Shark is basically the point where something stops being great, or gets ridiculous (usually used for TV shows, a term to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.)

Origin of this phrase comes from a Happy Days episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on waterskis, which was labeled the lowest point of the show.

First time I’ve heard it used about an App though, and I agree Instagram HAS done that, but it was what came a day after the Android version that caused it and sent many flocking away from the app.
