I’m not a huge subscriber to paid standalone streaming services although I do not begrudge paying for Netflix every month because as a family we get so much from it. But to expand my on demand viewing over the years I have built a number of Windows media PCs and am currently running the best one I’ve ever had. The issue is controlling the damn thing. In the past I’ve tried the official Windows Media Centre remote but always the best input as with any computer is a keyboard and mouse. Up until now I have used a mixed of wired and wireless keyboards and mice but this has always meant me resorting to sitting on the floor while I browse the web for content.

Now as my years increase and my knees get more knackered this practice just had to stop so I went on the hunt for a dedicated all in one keyboard and mouse combo so I could sit my arse on the sofa and surf with ease. That meant looking at the new generation of keyboards with built in trackpads of which there are a lot on the market so narrowing down the field was a bit of a task. After a lot of searching I found just what I was looking for, and it was made by Logitech, which as we all know make pretty decent stuff.

The model in question is the K400 Plus. It’s designed specifically for PC connected TVs and it’s pretty sweet.

The first thing you notice is it’s footprint. Even though it includes a touchpad it’s still lovely and small and really light. The keyboard itself has a number of media dedicated keys like your volume, search and the like. The touchpad is nice too. You can tap on it as an input but you also get the left and right mouse buttons which is really handy when you are moving files around and the like.

There is something so rewarding being able to navigate an interface with ease and the K400 is really responsive. They keys are quiet too so you don’t get stern looks across the lounge when you’re using it.

It connects via Bluetooth (dongle included) and has a range of up to 33 feet. As well as working with Windows it is also compatible with Android and Chrome OS (no mention of Mac).

It took a little bit of getting used to using it on my lap but a little more use will solve that. Apart from that it’s a decent device and does just what I need it to do. What more could you ask for?
