You may have read my recent review of of the Sonos Play1 and be wondering why I've gone and bought another speaker.. Well the reason is I've experienced a problem
and that problem comes in the shape of my 5 year old daughter and her new appreciation of playing music out loud.. So I started looking for a speaker I could put in her bedroom which would also do a job on family holidays or I could sneak out with me when I work away for the hotel room..
It didn't take long for me to find the Anker Stereo Bluetooth Speaker (Model: A3143) at £43.99 on Amazon. Being a fan of Anker products I was expecting a quality product and when it arrived the following day by Prime I wasn't disappointed at all.. First off the piano black gloss top and buttons looks and feels very nice, the unit feels solid and the 3.5mm aux in and micro USB charge ports are easily accessible on the right side.
Powering the unit on/off gives a bassy tone and holding for a few seconds allows very easy Bluetooth pairing. This brings me to the sound and for a unit of this size and price I am very impressed.. The Anker isn't competing at the Sonos level but it's certainly a Bluetooth speaker which is punching above its weight thanks to a 20W Output from 2x10W Drivers and dual passive subwoofers. The unit gives a clean sound which to my ear gives a good balance across the audio range. I noticed on so some tracks it was a tad on the bassy side however this was easily adjusted in my iPhone EQ. A couple of hours listening with my daughter, bridging our musical tastes from Foo Fighters to Taylor Swift (no prizes of guessing who likes what) and I was really pleased with the sounds from the Anker.. All tests so far have been indoor and I would have liked to have tested the speaker outside but this will need to wait until the better weather arrives.
Anker claims an 8 hour battery which although I haven't timed does feel accurate from my daughters usage over the last 3 weeks and only 1 charge over this period..
So, this is a definite recommend from me.. If you are in the market for a Bluetooth speaker then the Anker is fantastic for the price!
